At the Council meeting of Monday, November 16, 2015, Oakville Town Council passed By-law 2015-075 – a by-law to provide for the licensing and regulation of various businesses in the Town of Oakville including lawn care operators, property maintenance companies and landscape companies. Any lawn care, property maintenance for landscape company operating in Oakville, regardless of their home base, is required to attain a licence.

The fee for a lawn care only company is $180.45 and a landscaping or property maintenance company pays $507.00.

Once a licence is received, it then expires on April 30 the following year, regardless of when the licence was applied for. The first application may not be for a full year.

In addition to the fee, the application process also requires:
  • Proof of liability insurance of $2 million
  • A Canadian Criminal Record Check conducted within 30 days prior to the application of the license
  • A list of services provided
  • A list of all company licence plates operating in Oakville
  • Lists of owners and incorporating documents if required
The application states it is an offence to operate a business without a licence and charges may be laid without additional notice.
