The Effective Supervisor
This seminar will consider the day-to-day context in which supervisors perform their role and bring to life the concepts associated with 'organizing the work and its performance' as referenced in the definition of a competent person. It will go beyond the awareness of the legal roles and responsibilities of supervisors and engage participants in identifying real life challenges and solutions. The seminar will help direct others, factoring in learning styles, generational differences and English as a second language, for example:
* Review of the legal definition of a "competent person" and describe what it means in the context of the daily activities of a supervisor.
* Understand the role of a supervisor as it relates to People,Paper, and Process and describes the associated challenges.
* Identify practical strategies for overcoming challenges.
* Develop and practice communication skills in the following areas: providing instruction and direction to others; orienting new workers; providing feedback; preparing for and leading meetings.
Participants will create their own "tool kits" for use in the workplace including guidelines for constructive feedback, designing new worker orientation, developing safety meeting outlines and more.
Upon completion you will be able to understand the role of the supervisor and be equipped with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to competently carry out your essential role.
This seminar is for anyone with supervisory responsibilities in the workplace who already has awareness of their legal rights, duties and responsibilities and is looking to strengthen their supervisory competency.

New- Small Garden Design
This seminar will key on properties where space is at a premium, either by virtue of lot size, or redevelopment that has seen a larger residence built on it. These small spaces pose many design challenges with mistakes and shortfalls apparent. We will analyse and explore how the principles and elements of design apply to these restricted spaces and how they can avert design mishaps. Particular attention will be directed to visual framing and perspective techniques that can make the small property seem larger than reality. Plants suitable for tight spaces and specific site conditions, along with related plant maintenance, will also be discussed. Numerous examples of small garden designs both in slide and plan format will be reviewed providing useful insights for participants. These same participants are encouraged to share their design ideas and challenges encountered from their own with small garden design.
This course would be applicable to a wide audience of design practitioners with special relevance to those starting their design careers.
