Dr. Leslie Laking

Dr. Leslie Laking died peacefully at The Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, Ont., on Sat., Apr. 16, 2011.

Laking spent the majority of his career as director of the Royal Botanical Gardens, retiring in 1981. Upon retirement, he was appointed as honorary president of the RBG Auxiliary, and more recently as director emeritus of the RBG. Leslie received many accolades over the years, including honorary doctorate degrees from University of Guelph and McMaster University. He was particularly proud to have received the Order of Canada in 1979.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Road West, Burlington, on May 17. www.smithsfh.com
